Columbia River Gorge
Klickitat County, United States
Canyon along the border of Oregon and Washington in the United States. It lies in the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau, most comfortable in spring and autumn.
Why visit: The Colorado Plateau — canyons, slot canyons and incised meanders cut a mile deep into red rock.
- ›Watch sunrise or sunset from the rim — the light is the whole point
- ›Carry far more water than feels sensible
- ›Remember the climb back out takes twice as long as the descent
- ›Book slot-canyon tours ahead; several are on tribal land and require a guide
