Grey Mare's Tail

Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom

4.5 (0)

Overview

Waterfall in the Moffat Hills, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, UK. It sits in high or exposed country, where the weather changes fast and proper boots and waterproofs matter even in summer.

Why visit: Wooded gorges in Yorkshire, Wales and the Highlands — modest in height, spectacular when the rivers are up.

Things to do

›Go a day or two after rain for the flow
›Wear boots — the approach paths are mud
›Follow the marked trail rather than the riverbed
›Keep back from wet rock at the lip
