Overview

The 'village of temples' — 72 surviving terracotta temples (of 108) built by the Baj Basanta dynasty in the 17th–19th centuries.

Why visit: One of India's densest clusters of terracotta temple art, still wonderfully off the tourist map.

History: Built by the kings of the 'nankar' (tax-free) kingdom granted by Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah, each temple is carved with Ramayana scenes.
